I’m most excited to experience the natural wonders of Iceland. It looks like it would be fun to see unique natural features such as the geysers and glaciers. This would be a very different environment to either Pittsburgh or Connecticut, which is where I’m from. I haven’t been outside of the country for a long time, so it would be an interesting break from routine.
I’m looking forward to seeing first hand how the natural environment has shaped Icelandic society. The geothermal features allowing power and heat generation are the most obvious, but even factors such as the shape of the coastline have influenced things such as where fisherman historically launched their boats. This trip would give me insight into how the natural environment can act both as an obstacle and a opportunity to the engineering process. Although Iceland is a very unique place, the lessons I will learn there will be useful no matter what situation I’m in.
