Our trip to Iceland is so close, and I honestly can’t believe it’s happening. This is a chance to see some of the most incredible landscapes and learn about a culture that’s so connected to nature. I will be able to actually experience sustainability in action.

One of the places I’m most excited about is the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. It has everything! Black sand beaches, volcanic craters, and even a glacier. It feels like a mini version of Iceland. Another big one for me is Gullfoss. I’ve seen pictures, but I know it’s nothing compared to standing in front of a massive waterfall like that.

Another place that really stands out to me is Sólheimajökull glacier. I think this will be the most emotional part of the trip. It’s shrinking fast because of climate change, and knowing that we might be some of the last people to see it is kind of heartbreaking. It makes everything feel more real. I’ve read about glaciers disappearing, but actually seeing it is going to put things into perspective.

I’m also really looking forward to Diamond Beach. The contrast of the ice against the black sand looks unreal. Then there’s Seljalandsfoss, where we can actually walk behind the waterfall, which sounds like something straight out of a movie. And finally, the northern lights. Seeing them has always been a dream of mine since I was young. That alone will make this whole trip worth it.

But this isn’t a vacation. It’s a chance to see how Iceland uses its natural energy, to understand the impact of climate change in a way I never have before, and to connect everything I’ve been learning in my major with the real world. I know this trip is going to change the way I see sustainability, and I can’t wait to be there. Iceland is just the next stop in my journey of exploring the world, and I know this will be one of the most unforgettable ones yet.
