Today was our first day in Iceland. As we left the airport I was immediately met with the cold temperature and a strong gust of wind. We met with our tour guide, Ólöf, and started on our journey into Reykjavik. Along the drive I was able to relax from the stress of the airport and take in my surroundings with the help of our guide.

Our first stop in Reykjavik was Hallgrimskirkja, a massive lutheran church in the city center. Seeing this magnificent building has been on my bucket list for a while now, and it definitely lived up to my expectations. We continued exploring and learning about the city. We looked into sweater shops, walked on the rainbow road, and tried an Icelandic Hotdog. The hotdog was one of the best hotdogs I have ever tried and I can’t wait to get more during our visit.

We continued our journey to Hellisheiði Power Station, a geothermal power plant responsible for producing a large portion of Iceland’s energy. This geothermal power plant is the largest in Iceland and one of the largest in the world. I have always been fascinated by geothermal energy and being able to see a plant in person and learn more about it was an amazing experience.

We ended our day at our hotel with a great dinner where we were finally able to relax. Today was an exhausting but fantastic first day in Iceland and I can’t wait to continue exploring and learning more about this incredibly unique country!
