Today was spent exploring the natural beauties of Iceland. As we continue this journey, I find myself paying closer attention to the lay of the land. It is extremely and oddly flat compared to anywhere I have ever been. There are lava fields as far as the eye can see, and mountains that hide their peaks in the clouds just beyond that. I am in awe that Icelanders put up with the weather and have tamed the land enough to survive.  Weather impacted our plans today, but we saw some breathtaking sights, nonetheless.

We started our day waterfalls over lava fields, followed by the outer outcrop of the land, which was a rocky beach where we saw seals! We also experienced drastic and fast weather changes on this part of the island. It is incredible that within minutes it changed from sunny and calm to windy and hailing, and then back again. Following lunch, we walked along cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and saw some of the highest waves I’ve ever seen, and the fastest winds I’ve ever felt (almost 60 mph)!

After a long day of sightseeing, we got dinner and ended the night trying some Icelandic foods. Overall, I find it amazing to see the landscapes that nature has formed, and I am excited for tomorrow and the rest of the week!
