The day started off strong, I slept in and thankfully got woken up by Nora, my chaperone, so I could make it onto the bus (#NoManLeftBehind). Once I got onto the bus, we had a short drive to the dwarf cliffs. I learned that visitors to the cliffs hear voices of people who are rumored to be dwarfs. The sites were stunning with basalt cliffs surrounded by gigantic mountains and a waterfall cutting through the center. After picking up Nicole, we spotted Icelandic horses and I was able to take photos to show my family. Next we stopped at Skeiðará Bridge Monument where I saw the remains of a once standing bridge that was destroyed by extreme flooding. The water was moving at a speed of 50 million kilograms per second therefore the water carried a large amount of kinetic energy ultimately resulting in the torsion of the steel. The power of nature never fails to amaze me. The fourth stop was the diamond beach where I saw broken, washed up pieces of glaciers. Carson and I spent time walking around and sightseeing along the coast. Watching the sun shine reflect off the rippling water was both majestic and calming. I ended up obtaining a bag of black sand because I would love to remember my time in this wonderful country. As a side note, the temperatures were relatively warmer throughout the day which served wonders for admiring the beauty of nature.
