Touring Reykjavik, I realized just how much amazing stuff there is to do in a country where many people will never visit in their life. From the restaurants lining the streets to the souvenir stores on every corner, there are endless opportunities for activities to do. My personal favorite from our trip was actually the first store we walked into on the trip and now also my last: The Handknitting Association of Iceland. This store was warm and welcoming not just from the person working there inside the door, but literally when it comes to the handknit wool products that are sold.
Upon coming to Reykjavik, I wasn’t really sure what I was walking into. When I thought Iceland, all I thought was a cold place with a lot of very little towns full of locals that aren’t used to visitors; I could not have been more wrong. The city was filled with welcoming locals who loved having foreigners in the country and treated us with nothing but respect. Along with this, there were endless fun activities to do in the city as a mentioned and that was only what we discovered in a few hours of walking around.
If there was one thing, I could tell someone to explore upon arrival, it would be to explore the National Church of Iceland. Although I did not go inside, the outside was breathtaking and provides countless photo opportunities and beauty that can’t be matched by any other buildings.
Reykjavik went above and beyond what I believed it was going to be, and I strongly encourage anyone who hasn’t had the opportunity to visit to do so in their life. Whether it is a walk around the city for one night, or a guided tour around the entire city, it will not disappoint.
