My day spent in Reykjavik did by no means disappoint. Baking is one of my favorite pastimes, so I knew I wanted to go to one of Reyjavik’s most well-known pastry shops. After some extensive internet research before and during the trip, I found my bakery of choice, Braud & Co. They had extremely high praise and ratings, and they are best known for one of my favorite desserts, a cinnamon roll. I also read that they strongly emphasise using only the highest quality ingredients. They never fail to use organic ingredients in their bread and pastries because they know that it guarantees a much better taste. Their pastries are SO good that when they initially opened, “In the first months… had to close way too early, day after day, because everything was torn from the shelves”. After that my heart was set ❤
As I neared the pastry shop I had been dreaming of for weeks on end, I could smell the shop from down the road. I had high expectations, and they certainly did not disappoint. Kayla and I shared a cinnamon roll and immediately agreed it had been the best one each of us had ever tasted. It was warm, gooey, and everything you could dream of in the perfect cinnamon roll.
Along with a pastry run, I did some shopping for family and friends and some sightseeing, including Rainbow Street. Beyond my day of shopping and sweets, I would say a day spent in the town is definitely weather dependent; when the sun is out (at least not snowing/raining), Reykjavik is the perfect place to get lost in and walk around for hours. If I had to recommend something to do in the city, it would be to find some highly rated food & goodies to fill up on and then walk and window shop until you’re beat! There are a lot of hidden gems, as well as some super noticeable tourist trap areas. My best advice would be to keep your eyes peeled as you wander and do a little internet search before to find what might be your favorite or of interest to you!
I am definitely a big retail therapy girl at heart, so these lines of shops in the city were the perfect spot to roam and feel back to my roots! Overall, Reykjavik was one of my favorite days, and there is 100% something for everyone to enjoy and love in this city.
