Iceland day 7 down! Today was way less scheduled than the previous days. We got up pretty early to head to a science center on the Reykjanes peninsula called the Fræðasetrið Nature Centre. Here we learned all about the facilities environmental efforts, especially for the aquatic and bird species on the island. We also discussed a lot of environmental engineering concepts we could apply to harness the raw energy in nature. Something as simple as the tide could be the solution to our renewable energy problem.

We had the rest of the day free to explore Reykjavík. A few of us went souvenir shopping and grabbed some food. It was fun to just wander around for a while instead of riding the bus everywhere.
Later that night we had our farewell dinner. The food was incredible and a great way for us all to chat and reminisce on our trip after our last full day on the island.

After dinner, a few of us went to explore the city one last time and grab any last minute souvenirs. After an exhausting day, I headed back to pack my suitcase for the airport.
My favorite part of visiting Reykjavik was a Big Lebowski themed bar and grill we stopped at to hang out and grab some food. It was nice to take a break and just chat and there was plenty of fun music and cool props hanging around the building. I expected Reykjavik to be an incredibly busy city, like one I’d expect in the states. While it was busy, it was much more walkable than anything I see in Pittsburgh. For anyone traveling to the city, I’d recommend just wandering around and seeing what you find! We say a few escape rooms, thrift stores, and tons of activities. If we had more time I definitely would’ve done the escape room! Tomorrow we don’t have much planned before the flight, but I’ll definitely miss my time in Iceland when I head home.
