Today was our last full day in Iceland. We leave tomorrow at 5 pm so we still have time but not another day. Leaving is going to be so hard. I feel like I learned so much and got to see awesome sustainable engineering practices used here. I made some great friends, and saw beautiful sights and now it is back to Pittsburgh. Thankfully, we were given the afternoon to explore the capital city of Reykjavik. This was a great experience. Reykjavik is such a walkable city, much more than any American city I’ve been in. This is very nice for people like me, that is tourists. After visiting the beach and learning about how energy can be generated from the tides and the most polluting thing in the sea being fishing nets, we got back to Reykjavik. I went with part of the group and we just wandered around this city. Exploring without any specific goal is very enjoyable. We saw some interesting parts of the city by walking around without a goal or destination in mind. Our first stop was a second hand store that was super high end. I was genuinely shocked at the prices in this store, because some of the things were like 12000 Krona, which is like eighty eight dollars. We walked around and went into another second hand store that had more prices around what I would expect. There was some souvenir shopping done and that is always a fun activity. The group split here and I went with Madison and Kalinda to my favorite restaurant, The Lebowski Bar. This was a really cool diner that had some great local food like smoked Puffin. It was also themed around the movie “The Big Lebowski” and there were pictures of many presidents bowling. If there are people interested in what to do in Reykjavik, I would highly recommend going to the Hallgrimskirkja and the Rainbow Road. Also just walking around and seeing the main street of shops.
