On our last full day, we had free time to explore the city of Reykjavik. Since Iceland is highly visited by tourists, there were a lot of museums, monuments, gift shops, and places to eat. I mainly spent my day walking around and taking in all the sights, but my favorite place I visited was Brauð & Co, a little bakery with a lot to offer.
Ever since I was little, my dad and I have shared dessert after almost every meal we have together. This fostered a sweet tooth in me and inspired a tradition of trying something sweet everywhere I go. Additionally, my best friend Maura is an avid baker and having her in Iceland with me meant we had to judge all the sweet treats we could find. After letting her do some research, we decided to try this bakery because of their rave reviews. As we approached Brauð & Co, an overwhelming and delicious smell hit our noses, and we couldn’t help but step inside.
During my time in Iceland, I sampled nearly a dozen desserts- from cheesecake to sweet buns to mousse and everything in between. Brauð & Co. is known for their cinnamon rolls, so of course we had to try it. To get to the point, this was the best cinnamon roll I’ve ever had. The roll was warm and the perfect texture, and the sticky filling was nothing short of delicious. It was the perfect treat for our walk around Reykjavik, and something I would definitely go back to Iceland for.
Based on the rest of Iceland that we saw during our week, I expected Reykjavik to be a small capital city without a lot going on, but boy was I wrong. It was a large capital city with many buildings, industries, and forms of transportation, and was definitely a change of pace from the rest of the trip. If you are visiting Iceland, see the historical sites that Reykjavik has to offer (and try as many desserts as you can)!
