Unlike my peers who are eagerly awaiting their arrival to the Czech Republic, I have been here for almost a week now, not in Prague, but in Polichno, a small rural village in the Moravia Region. I have had the chance to spend time with my grandparents who I get to see once a year, at best. A few days in the middle of nowhere have left me missing city life, and I am ready to embark on my journey to Prague, which in the most European fashion, will be on the train.

As someone who has been to the Czech Republic before, as a tourist and in some parts as an honorary local, I have experienced the cultural before, but I have never had a chance to speak, or think about the engineering culture here in the Czech Republic. The visits to Skoda and CEZ are the most exciting for me, as a mechanical engineer. I hope to gain a deeper understanding of the production of automobiles at Skoda, and gain new knowledge of the power generation processes at CEZ. I hope these practical experiences can help me extend my knowledge of how engineers think in this part of the world, and apply these techniques to my own engineering practices.

I can’t wait for a new type of experience in the Czech Republic to start tomorrow!
