Today was a very long but incredible day. With only the few hours that we were in Prague, I already noticed so many differences in my life at home vs here. One meaningful conversation I had with quite a few people was about languages. I noticed how normalized it is for Europeans to know English, but then most Americans don’t know other languages. I think that is a very privileged position for us to be in, however it does feel like I am being disrespectful expecting the locals to speak my language. Additionally, cultural differences such as noise level when walking through the street has been very noticable already. It was shocking to see how quiet a city center truly could be. This is something I have thought about before, however being here today has exasperated the realization of how almost every European speak English, as well as other languages. Also, the Charles bridge was an incredible view. Practically it is just a bridge to walk over, but it has an abundance of history. I am very excited to go across it and learn about it more.
