Roc learned so much on his very first (official) day studying abroad here in Prague! At Charles University, Roc learned about Czechia’s history, both as a nation and in engineering. Surrounded by mountains, the Czech Republic relies on extraction of natural resources for exports. This abundance led to a well-developed mining-engineering sector, which drove the economy and stimulated growth. Also, Czechia plays a very important role in automobile manufacturing. It is home to Skoda, a very famous European car brand, which helped the nation grow technologically. So much so that The Republic was used for its resources and vehicle-centric industries to create weapons for the wars.

In the water sector, Roc really enjoyed his time at the filter plant. It is clear that Prague holds water sanitation very seriously, having been developing the practice for millennia. They have reopened plants to help give Prague and the nation with clean water. Although he can swim, Roc is scared of falling into the purification basins since the air pumped into them makes them impossible to swim in. Roc will wait for the beer baths to swim.

The Czech way is different than Roc experiences back at Pitt. He thinks the architecture is beautiful, but since he has been to other countries before, he isn’t as in shock as he was before. He is excited to see what happens in the upcoming days!
