The perspective from the Czech side of history gave a unique perspective into their role within Europe and the world. I didn’t know certain inventions, like the arc lamp and contacts, originated from the Czech Republic. I also learned the significance of the Czech Region in supplying materials, weapons, and automobiles throughout the modern age. Learning this information has altered my view; the Czech region and the Czech Republic now take on a much more significant role in the development of Europe.
The Czech attitude toward water and infrastructure comes through as extremely organized and efficient through the scope of the Podoli Waterworks tour. I had never been on a water treatment plant tour before, and was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed the tour. I found the different methods of water purification and the different plants servicing Prague extremely interesting. I was especially interested in how different water treatment methods can produce different levels of water hardness. My favorite step of the water treatment process was the cleaning of the sand by aerating it and washing it with clean water; the demonstration was fascinating.
Overall, being in Prague so far, I have not felt extreme culture shock. My experience so far has been amazing, I have already gotten to experience so much of Czech Culture in the short time that I have been here, and I can’t wait for more.
