Newspapers are useless. At least that is what I thought before seeing one of the art pieces at the Kunsthalle Museum. Today we had a chance to tour the Kunsthalle Museum; it was fascinating. I never realized the effort that goes into preserving art and exhibition rooms. During our comprehensive tour of the facility, we saw special climate-controlled storage, smart building, architecture, and more. The amount of planning that went into this museum was incredible. The building itself, as well as the art, bridges together art and science. The storage rooms we looked at had specific sensors and a fire system that replaces oxygen in the room in case of a fire. I never knew how art was maintained on site and carefully set up for exhibitions. The building material also utilizes recycled concrete from the original building to create an artistic style for some walls and floors. Moving to the actual art, there was an obvious connection to technology. One of the best pieces was a room of projected trees that people have tattooed, utilizing projectors and animation. My favorite piece was a tree stump made of newspapers; I thought it was the most impressive. This will definitely factor into my future work as an engineer, thinking about how people interact with my products.
