Today, we had our first free morning to explore the city on our own. I made use of this free time by going to the Senate Gardens also called Wallenstein Gardens. This was perfect for the nice morning that it was, and the gardens were beautiful and filled with peacocks. After this, we made our way to the Kuntshalle, where we toured the inner workings of an art museum, exploring all the way to the collection storage rooms. This tour was extremely interesting, given how many things there were that are necessary for a museum like the Kuntshalle to function. Finally, to end the day off, we had an alumni reception event in the evening, with Pitt alumni in the Prague area.
The networking event was really interesting for me, and really insightful, partly helped by the fact that I speak Czech and was able to communicate on a more personal level with some of the alumni. I had the pleasure of speaking to a few alumni who work in the energy industry, who also studied engineering at some point in their lives. Their insights about how the industry is heavily influenced by outside factors in today’s world were very eye-opening. We spoke about the different ways energy is created in the Czech Republic, and how natural gas is a big talking point due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. In general, listening to them speak about the business and technical sides of the industry with such clear knowledge was inspiring.
