Today we had a well needed late start to our day! We were able to visit Kunsthalle today, a former transformer station that was revitalized starting in 2015 as an art museum. This building was beautiful inside and out. They were able to keep the facade of the building relatively unchanged with the exception of a very nicely designed ramp to the entrance. In order to keep the exterior of the building unchanged they were forced to essentially build another building within the old one. This was an incredible feat of engineering and design that must have taken a significant amount of care and time. The underground facilities responsible for keeping the museum running smoothly were also extremely impressive and it was great we had the chance to see them. I truly cannot emphasize enough how impressive this building is. I think it is incredibly important that we use our engineering skills to preserve and produce as much art as possible.
Part of the reason I decided to go to school for engineering was because of my love for art and design. Engineering is a form of art in itself and I wanted to gain the skills from engineering to use in potentially building our future. Art is a part of what makes us human and we have to keep emphasizing that part of us. Kunsthalle has managed to curate a great space for art and I hope to see more places like Kunsthalle in the future.
