Today we started the day by touring the international energy and power management company Eaton. They showed us several products that they were working on and explained the global position of energy management. The topic that particular stuck with me was their role in aeronautical engineering as they showed the different parts on popular airlines that were created by Eaton. After this company tour we got to walk through an old Cold War bunker back in Prague. In this bunker, people would have been able to survive close to three weeks in case of a nuclear fall out and people living in the hotel above would be able to easily access it.

Being in Central Europe, the Czech Republic has been influenced by both the West and the East. Because of this, they have had many mixing ideals and concerns when navigating through the world wars and the Cold War. In this particular case, the engineers building these bunkers and secret bases for the soviet soldiers might not necessarily agree with the political stance of the occupiers. This allowed the Czech to be in a particularly strong position to make a stance and they eventually did as we learned in the Velvet Revolution.
