Today, our final day as a group in the Czech Republic, we visited the fairytale like town of Cesky Krumlov. Cesky Krumlov is located about 200 km south of Prague, and is built along the winding Vltava, and nestled in the hills of Southern Moravia. The main attraction that we visited was the castle complex, which is the third largest in the world, and second largest in the Czech Republic. This castle complex was originally built in the 12th century, and has been remodeled and renovated by the royal families which have lived there up until the end of the Second World War.
Cesky Krumlov is one of the cultural sites that I have not seen yet in the Czech Republic, so it was a new experience even for me, and it did not disappoint. I was particularly interested in the different styles which each era brought to the castle. Whether it was renaissance, baroque, and medieval. Each new family that occupied the castle wanted to keep up with the latest trends, and what this leaves for us to see now is an evolution of architecture and building techniques. It was interesting to see the craftsmanship, which had such a high quality that many of the pieces remain original, but not only mirrors or furniture, but the ceilings, floors, and doors. These aspects in the castle made the craftsmanship truly stand out.
