Our trip to Iceland did not begin as expected. Which was maybe my fault, I should have known to expect the unexpected- especially where Iceland is concerned.
Our flights from Pittsburgh to Boston and then from Boston to Iceland were severely delayed, which made for a long and, honestly, exhausting travel day. Sitting in airports longer than planned and trying to keep track of a new, very late departure time wasn’t exactly the most exciting way to begin the trip. By the time we finally made it here, everyone was feeling pretty tired.
That said, once we actually got to Reykjavik and started doing things- including power napping on the bus!- the day got a lot better. We visited the Perlan Museum, which was really impressive. The immersive experiences around lava and a genuine ice cave were amazing. Pictured below is our cohort in said lava system simulation- sooo neat! It was a really cool introduction to Iceland’s natural environment and energy systems.

We also had some great food, which felt well-earned after such a long day of travel. It was nice to finally relax a bit and just enjoy being here. Below is my lamb soup with bread, from Perlan Museum, as well as our Lamb dinner from Hotel Viking. Very yummy!

Even though the day started off rough and we’re all pretty exhausted, it still ended up being a really good first day. I can’t wait for tomorrow!
