To start day four, we headed to Seljalandsfoss. The waterfall was breathtaking and surrounded by open farmland, which made the landscape feel even more dramatic. At the same location, I walked a little farther down the path and discovered another waterfall hidden inside a slot canyon, Gljúfrabúi. Seeing a waterfall tucked inside the canyon was incredible and made for some amazing photos.

Next, we visited another famous waterfall, Skógafoss. This was definitely my favorite waterfall of the entire trip. After a short rain shower, the sun came out and created a bright rainbow right at the base of the waterfall. We hiked up the stairs to the top and continued along the trail where we were able to see several more waterfalls and incredible views of the surrounding landscape. This hike ended up being my favorite part of the whole trip.

After that, we went to the Skógar Museum, where we learned more about Iceland’s culture and history. Seeing the traditional turf houses was especially interesting because they showed how people adapted their homes to Iceland’s harsh climate. We then walked over to the Skógar Technical Museum, where we saw old cars, boats, and airplanes and learned how they were modified to work in Iceland’s environment.

To finish the day, we visited the Sólheimajökull and a nearby black sand beach, Reynisfjara. Both were completely new experiences for me and gave us even more incredible views and photo opportunities.
