Today was a busy one!

We started by going to Seljalandsfoss. We were lucky to have good weather- we even saw a rainbow. There were sea birds all over, as these cliffs had been formed by the ocean a long, long time ago.

Then we went to another waterfall- Skógafoss. Here we saw even more rainbows!!! We climbed (so many) stairs to the top and had an even better view.

Then we went to the Skógar Folk Museum, which was started by one man as a sort of passion project. It was great to see so many artifacts and learn more about Icelandic culture and history. I really enjoyed going through the replica turf homes. Pictured below are some farm tools.

We also went to see Sólheimajökull glacier. This was stunning! It was a bit sobering to learn about how much of it has been lost (melted) within Ólöf’s lifetime- but it was a sight to see. The black/grey layers you see are black sand or ash sediment which has been carried down by the glacier.

We ended with a quick stop in Vik, seeing the famous Reynisfjara black sand beaches. This was maybe the most surreal area of the day!
