Today is my birthday and I am so excited to be celebrating it with some beautiful sightseeing in Iceland. We started the day by going to a glacial lagoon and black sand beach. In the lagoon waters, some seals were playing around! We also saw some interesting chunks of glacier that get washed onto the black sand beaches from powerful waves.

After the black sand beach and glacial lagoon, we went chasing after basalt rock formations with a hike in the afternoon. Basalt is prevalent in Iceland due to its amount of volcanic activity. The basalt rock formations have a super unique boxy, almost hexagonal shape.

We ended the day by seeing more “younger” rock formations on the way back to the hotel. These rock formations were super unique to see up close, and I was surprised by the amount of moss growth on top of them!

Today was a fantastic way to turn 21, and I can’t wait to visit a power plant and explore Reykjavík more tomorrow.
