Today we left our hotel on the Southern Coast of Iceland to travel back to Reykjavik. We reached the southernmost tip of Iceland for some scenic views. The black sand beach has some extremely powerful waves, called Sneaker Waves, that splashed over the rocks. There also was a cool bridge like basalt formation. Basalt is super prevalent on Iceland.

Next we went to a real Geothermal power plant, called ON Power in English. This picture shows us looking at an injection site for carbon sequestration (aka the storage part of carbon capture technology). Using this technology, carbon is transformed into Icelandic Spar underground and can become imbedded into Basalt. Pretty cool to see this technology in action!

Finally we ended the day with a walking tour of Reykjavik, passing parliament, prime minister’s offices, and the famous Rainbow Road. We saw some swans and geese as well! For dinner we got to try authentic, but modern spins on Icelandic foods, such as horse tartare and smoked puffin. Can’t wait to explore more of Reykjavík tomorrow.
