Hello. I’m excited and grateful for this opportunity to visit Prague on Plus3X! The focus of this program is to see how various engineering industries operate in another country and study the impact of engineering on society (and vice versa). Another purpose is to enjoy touring and exploring a new culture. Prague is the perfect place for both because it’s a Central European hub of education and technology, and has been mostly preserved (architecture-wise) from the Middle Ages through the world wars.

In particular, I’m excited to visit Prague because of its long, storied history. I often admire old, intricately-decorated buildings, and I’m lucky to live near Independence Hall, but it can’t compete (in terms of age) with Prague’s Old Town. In preparation for this trip, I read Built by Roma Agrawal, a British structural engineer who told the history of materials and design concepts in civil engineering. It fascinated me to read about the hidden aspects and work that go into creating infrastructure. In this vein, I hope to learn about Prague’s historic infrastructure and how the city has adapted (from the lens of its engineers and scientists) to every era.
