I can already imagine the emotions-my finals concluding, the April air turning warm with the vibrance of May, the adrenaline rush of the 747 taking off, its destination Florence.
Countless reasons contribute to my excitement, a central Pennsylvania kid who has never left the country, striving to travel before the red lights of adulthood shimmer.
As an avid fan of history, already familiar with the Medici family and the great Renaissance thinkers, I hope to go beyond a basic understanding, achieving a level of comprehension only possible by walking the same streets and spending time under the same red terracotta roofs.
I am also somebody who enjoys the finer things in this short life, a good steak, a stunning painting. No other city in the world provides such a beautiful intersection of culture, art, and science.
Like the feelings of travel I can picture being on top of il Duomo, a spring breeze on my face, breathless from both from the vista and the flights of stairs below.
I hope to meet some great people along the way, whether it’s fellow University of Pittsburgh students, faculty, or locals, lucky enough to call Florence, or Firenze home.
