Hello, my name is Logan Mierzwicki, I just finished my second year in the Bioengineering program, and I’m excited to be going to Florence for a month. In this program, I’m most excited to be able to go multiple museums and spend time looking at the old architecture and art. What better place to do that then Italy? Additionally, I am planning to go to the Italian Alps for a hike for a weekend, which should be a cool experience. While in Florence, I’m most excited to learn about how they built the large domes in a lot of the churches, and what purposes they serve, both structurally and culturally to Italy, and how the amount of ancient architecture shapes their culture, how they treat restoration, etc. I’m not very worried about anything culturally or travelling wise, while I am not an experienced traveler, I’m not too worried about getting there. If anything, I’m just worried about not knowing something culturally, which I probably should, and being surprised, though that is all a part of the experience in the end. Finally, my goals are to, at the end of the day, enjoy my time there while learning something new and broadening my appreciation for different cultures.
