As I am embarking on my journey to Florence Italy, the birthplace of the Renaissance, I am most looking forward to getting to study the old architecture. I have always been intrigued by how ancient constructions have lasted so long, but also by how they were even built in the first place. With the lack of understanding of modern physics and statics concepts, it is a wonder that these structures were successfully built, never mind continuing to stand for centuries.

I am hoping to learn how these structures have lasted so long, what makes them sustainable and how one can apply these principles in a modern context. One of the best ways to figure out a solution for the future is to first examine past solutions.

As I explore the city of Florence, I am glad that I get to experience another culture firsthand. One of my goals is to be well rounded and well traveled, and this study abroad will help me achieve that. During my time in Florence, I will be able to experience Italian culture and navigate the cultural differences in Italy.
