Bridges connect parts of a city, but they also have deeper meaning. The Charles Bridge is a good example because it was an important route for trade across the Vltava River connecting the Old Town and Lesser town. At the same time it has symbolic value as it is decorated with statues of saints that connect the city’s history with modern life. It is structured as a high-traffic pedestrian walkway that allows easy movement within major parts of the city, making it great for tourist attraction. Additionally, it is a pedestrian plaza filled with restaurants, markets and shops which shape the atmosphere of the urban space.
