Hi everyone! My name is Jack Wasco. I am a third-year engineering student at the University of Pittsburgh with a major in electrical engineering. Today, I will be travelling to São Leopoldo, Brazil to begin my two-week global experience! Our program is labelled as Exploration of Energy and Electrification. During my stay, I will be learning about power generation, transmission, and distribution all whilst experiencing the great culture that Brazil has to offer.
The first half of our visit will be to São Leopoldo, a city in close proximity to Porto Alegre, and the other half of our visit will be to Foz do Iguaçu. We will be visiting lots of companies during our stay, and they will be giving us tours of their facilities and presentations on their work. I am most looking forward to our tour of the Itaipu Dam, the third largest dam in the world in terms of power generation! Additionally, for sight-seeing, I am really excited to see the Iguazu Falls, the largest waterfall system in the world!
I can’t wait to get first-hand insight into the energy industry and to immerse myself in Brazilian culture. Stay tuned for updates!
