Today was my first day in Prague, and in Europe! On the bus ride to the city, I couldn’t help but stare out the window at the unfamiliar scenery and beautiful landscape. Today, I also met Jana for the first time in-person. Jana is very knowledgeable about Prague and the Czech Republic. During dinner, we had an interesting conversation of what a traditional Czech dish looks like. One of these dishes was roast duck, which was also on the menu at the restaurant so I decided to order that. It came with potato dumplings, bread, and red and white sauerkraut! Jana explained that this was a meal usually served for celebrations or as a nice Sunday dinner. It was my first time trying duck and it was delicious!! Jana also shared some traditional Czech soft drinks, one of which was called Kofola. She explained that Kofola was made during the Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia as an alternative to Coca Cola, which was not allowed to be imported. This peaked my interest so I ordered the drink and it wasn’t bad. It tasted similar to Coca Cola except for the very noticeable licorice type flavor. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind having another one again sometime.
