Today we toured a wastewater treatment facility, which sounds a lot less glamorous than it actually was. What stood out most was the Czech emphasis on efficiency, most notably their use of egg-shaped pipes, designed to optimize flow and maintain treatment continuity even when systems are under stress. It’s a small detail, but it speaks to the country’s broader and innovative mindset. Their circular economy was also extremely interesting, especially hearing about how the waste they filter gets reused by farmers for their crops, which then funds the treatment plant that’ll filter more waste from the same farmers’ crops eventually.

The Czech Republic’s industrial and educational systems carry the weight of a much longer history than what I’m used to in the U.S. Being a small, landlocked nation with a strong economy is no small thing, and the creativity behind their infrastructure and economy reflects that. I found that the country values that problems are meant to be solved thoughtfully, not just quickly.

Beyond the visits, Prague itself has been a wonderful surprise. The city is extremely walkable, and the architecture around every corner is so gorgeous that it’s easy to forget where you’re going (especially if you are as navigationally challenged as me). Navigating traffic takes a bit more awareness than back home, but that’s a small trade-off for a city this beautiful. I’m looking forward to everything still ahead!
