The Piazza della Repubblica is the forum of the original roman city, at the intersection of the 2 central roads. It is one of the larger open areas in the center of Florence, which provides a break in the city’s network of narrow alleyways and crowded streets. One thing I noticed is the very large arch over one of the main streets, with an inscription on the top. The road around the plaza is also quite wide, more so than in the rest of Florence. There’s also a column in the plaza with a statue on it marking the very center of the original city. Standing in the middle of the square is also a good vantage point to see buildings that are noticeably older than the ones in the further parts of the city.
