Our first day in Prague was loaded with learning!
Our first stop, and first site visit was the trip, was to the Old Wastewater Treatment Plant where we viewed a presentation about the plant and took a tour of it. I think that it was so interesting that the plant still has the potential to be fully functional. This truly showed me not to overlook the most simple, original, and traditional forms of engineering — sometimes they may be the best long-term.
Our second stop was to Charles University for two sessions in the classroom. The first session was about the relationship between history, economics, and engineering in Prague. Our second session was a Czech language lesson. I really enjoyed the language lesson, but it was challenging. Alone, the Czech language is difficult to speak and learn, but I thought it was more difficult because I kept wanting to speak in English, my first language, and Spanish, another language I am conversational in. The highlight of the class was winning the Kahoot!
We ended our day with our welcome dinner. This was my favorite part of the day because we had the opportunity to get to know each other better and also try new foods!
This was a fun and interesting day, a great way to start off our time in Prague. Being that it was our first day fully immersed in the city, I felt that I was overwhelmed and shocked at many times because of the cultural and language differences.
