Today we had a later start than usual, which was a nice change of pace. We started the day with breakfast and then walked around the Old Town with our guide, Jana. Jana took us to many of the main attractions nearby, such as Old Town Square with the astronomical clock, Charles’ Bridge, and the Jewish quarter. We also explored the Lesser Town including its beautiful garden with peacocks and the Lenin Wall. Throughout our tour, I noticed that the city was able to seamlessly integrate its modern and historical buildings in a way that was incredibly beautiful. Everywhere I looked, there was art expressed in different forms, such as the murals on the walls, the monuments on the streets, the architectural styles of the buildings, and the greenery that ties it all together. The more I looked, the more I saw and this made me realize that behind all this beauty was the ingenuity of the people that made it happen. Not just the artists but also the civil, environmental , electrical mechanical, and biological engineers all played their part in different ways to create the city we have the privilege of visiting today. Without their contributions and precise plans, Prague may have looked like a completely different city. Today’s tour left me with a lasting impact of what it means to be an engineer: It’s to use your inner creativity to design and create lasting solutions for the betterment of humanity that can be used and enjoyed for ages to come.
