Today we traveled to Kutná Hora and visited some of the most unique places we have seen so far. One of the highlights was St. Barbara’s Cathedral, which was an incredible example of engineering and architecture. Seeing the scale and detail of the structure made me think about how difficult it must have been to construct and maintain something so massive centuries ago without modern technology. The amount of planning, labor, and precision required is honestly hard to imagine.
We also visited the Sedlec Ossuary, which was both fascinating and unsettling. The way human bones were arranged into artistic designs really showed how art, history, and ethics can all intersect in unusual ways.
The silver mines were probably the most eye-opening part of the day. Learning about medieval mining techniques and actually seeing the tunnels gave me a much greater appreciation for the engineering involved in resource extraction at the time.
