Driving up to Carrara in the distance at the tops of some of the mountains you see white patches from afar taking up a large portion of the mountain. Getting up close it is then possible to see the quarries that sit open on the side of the mountain and go up into the fog with no end in site. Not only that but seeing the openings to the interior mines of the mountain seem to be so large that a building could easily fit inside. It is hard to imagine how people and even now machines move the large slabs of rock around the mountain. First impressions seeing these mines makes the operation seem almost impossible with such large rocks taken from the side of a mountain of marble.
