Earlier today, my class and I went on a jeep tour of the Carrara marble quarry, an experience that stood as both unique and thrilling. The site was massive to say the least. Whole mountains were being cut in half, exposing the inside of the cliffs, all while standing between clouds. Being so high up there was a peace through the beauty of the mountain and what is being produced, but there was still a blemish in the process. Going to the source of what might be everyday materials really puts into perspective where it comes from. Such is a question that is hard to answer without going and seeing the source of how it is made yourself. Thus came the blemish, seeing a natural landscape distorted through the terroforming and mining was a hard thing to witness. Still, I was impressed nonetheless, gaining more respect for the process of how things are made from now to the past. Historic monuments are worthy feats that are not just impressive by design but by process.
