My overall takeaway from the class was “wow that is challenging.” I have never been the most artistic but even having the instructors guide us through each step, I still struggled. I thought it was interesting learning about the history of how these art pieces were done. From locally sourcing pigments to having egg yolks in the mixture, I was fascinated by it all. The process that we used was also very cool to me. I would stay the first two steps of poking small holes over the shape that we used and then using a green powder on the wood to then create a stencil. I have never seen any process remotely close to that, so it was interesting to see that come together. Something I really struggled with was the shading and highlighting. Whenever I have painted in the past, I always just left it as one solid color. The process of adding white and black to my original color and then blending it was a struggle for me. Overall, I thought the class was wonderful. I feel like our instructors did a great job of explaining the history and the process while keeping it lively and exciting. This is definitely something I would do again and recommend to others.
