During my visit to Dul Bilina mine, a main environmental responsibility that was discussed and addressed was reclamation of the land torn up after mining in the area. After making the land unrecognizable in order to get natural resources by mining, when they are done with an area they take the responsibility of rehabilitating the land and creating a sort of “fake hill” area of land with lots of plants and trees. However, it isn’t as simple as planting some grass over the area. They explained that this land is fragile since it isn’t natural mountains, the area below is loose and can crash in and fall down. Some measures they took to prevent and monitor this are stones directing the path of any water and a laser that alerts them if the ground moves at all. In a broad sense, their reclamation plan works as expected since they explained how many species live in those areas like wild pigs, birds, and deer.
