Swanson School of Engineering

Today we went to CEZ. CEZ is a huge corporation in the Czech Republic and provides many necessary resources to the community. We explored most the coal open pit mine that runs the plant. This pit was absolutely huge and quite amazing to see. We got to see and hear about how they breakdown the lignite from the walls that then goes to the plant. I got to see many processes that I’ve learned about in my materials and manufacturing class and relate them to this as this is a similar way they receive coal to manufacture steel in the States. Overall this visit was very eye opening and was quite unique. It’s easy to overlook how we get thinks such as electricity and seeing the behind the scenes gives better insight.
