I absolutely adored today’s trip to Salcheto. The natural beauty of the mountains enhanced by the sprawling fields was a vision I will never forget. As a girl who grew up surrounded by agriculture, I love comparing the methods used in different regions of the world. Learning about how Tuscan grape harvests have been pushed back due to climate change was quite interesting because the same thing has been happening with the corn harvests back home. When we had the opportunity to explore a little, I came along a few pieces of farm equipment along one of the roads and was surprised to see how different it looked to the machinery I was accustomed to. I guess it makes sense because the cars and trucks here also have different designs than their US counterparts, but I still partially expected to see a John Deere tractor sitting on the side of the road. I also found it interesting how familiar the landscape felt. Although the architecture of the homes was different, I find comfort in how similar agricultural landscapes are, even across continents. This was truly an incredible trip that I shall remember for years to come.
