If I had to pick one sustainability practice from the Salcheto winery that I found interesting, it would be the life cycle of the barrels. These barrels, used at the last step of the fermentation of the wine, last about ten years down in the cellar as oak barrels. Afterwards, these barrels are reused within the business to make sunglasses, used to give the barrel a second use. They also sell the barrels to be used as furniture for people and in restaurants. This reusing of materials for new products is at the center of a circular economy, which whole goal is to increase the lifespan of materials and use them as much as possible.
