The Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry was a highlight for me personally. The biosynthetic pathways lab, specifically the work on using plants to replicate systems for human metabolite production, sits right at the intersection of biology and engineering in a way that genuinely excites me as a bioengineering student. Talking with researchers about their academic careers and what keeps them in research was just as valuable. It’s rare to get that kind of honest, unfiltered conversation about a career path you’re actually considering.
The afternoon was a full reset. A few students and I started off by visiting Prague Castle, then Strahov Monastery, and finally we couldn’t end our trip without climbing Petřín Tower. Standing at the top with a view over the whole city was the kind of moment needed to fully appreciate the city and everything about it. A good ending to a full day.
