Over the course of two weeks in Brazil, I had the opportunity to experience a unique combination of engineering, sustainability, and culture. From our first days in São Leopoldo exploring UNISINOS and energy companies to standing in front of the Iguazu Falls, every part of this trip had me thinking about engineering in the world around me.

Throughout our visits, I was exposed to many technologies and industries that I had little prior knowledge of. At companies such as HT Micron, Higra, Angulos Grupo, and Certaja Energia, I learned about semiconductors, renewable energy systems, sustainable water technologies, and electrical power distribution. Seeing these systems firsthand helped connect many classroom concepts to real-world applications. Visiting large-scale hydroelectric facilities such as Itaipu Dam and HPP Baixo Iguacu was especially impactful because it showed the enormous scale and complexity of renewable energy infrastructure.

Beyond the technical experiences, the cultural aspects of the trip were just as incredible. We participated in everything like dancing in the Capoeira class, listening to live music, sharing meals together, and exploring the cities of Porto Alegre and Foz do Iguacu. Some of my favorite memories came from the unplanned moments spent laughing, trying new foods, and connecting with people.

This experience also helped me grow personally. As a mechanical engineering student learning a lot about electrical engineering, I was pushed outside of my comfort zone to learn new things. Traveling internationally, forced me to adapt to a new culture, and learning in unfamiliar environments made me more confident and open-minded. This trip truly reinforced my passion for sustainable energy and engineering.

Overall, this study abroad program was one of the most rewarding experiences of my college experience, and I know the information and memories I gained in Brazil will stay with me forever.
