One of my biggest takeaways from the fresco class was learning how different true fresco painting is from other painting methods. Painting on a square wet limestone panel required careful timing and planning because the pigments had to be applied while the plaster was still damp. Once the surface dried, it became much harder to make changes. I also noticed how the pigments interacted with the limestone surface in a unique way.

The process helped me better appreciate the skill and patience required of historical fresco artists like Massacio. I found it interesting how much chemistry and craftsmanship are involved in preparing the plaster and working within a limited timeframe. Overall, the experience helped me gain a new respect for the skill and patience the Renaissance painters had.
